IIFT 2005 Analysis
IIFT 2005 was on expected lines and the pattern was
almost a repeat of IIFT 2004. However the paper was
slightly lengthier and more difficult than IIFT 2004.
There were 196 questions like last year with 1/5th negative
marking for wrong answers. Due to the knowledge of the
pattern that T.I.M.E. provided its students through
its papers, students of T.I.M.E. would have felt that
the paper was almost in similar lines to the previous
year's paper.
Quantitative Ability
Most of the questions in this section
were ranging on the easy to moderate variety. But there
were many questions on Trigonometry. Students who are
good in this area would have scored well but since most
of the students would not be in touch with Trigonometry,
they might have spent more time recollecting basics
in this area. A good student should have attempted more
than 30 questions in this section and a good score in
this section would be 14-15.
Reasoning
This
section consisted of Data Interpretation, Verbal Reasoning
(Critical Reasoning) and Logical Reasoning. A good score
in this section would be 12+.
Verbal Ability
The
verbal ability section of the paper included 5 passages
in reading comprehension, and questions in verbal analogies,
synonyms, antonyms, parajumbles, fill-in-the-blank,
and defining words. Reading Comprehension was quite
tough and most students would have found it difficult
to attempt more than 7-8 questions from this area. A
good student could have attempted 25 questions on the
whole and got a net score of 11-12.
General Awareness
This section contained all areas of general awareness
and current affairs and for a student who has been regularly
following the newspapers and magazines, this section
would have been easy. However, as is natural with most
students, this is not a welcome area and even after
eliminating 3 out of the 5 choices in some of the questions,
getting the right answer would still have required some
extra thought and analysis. A good score in this section
would be anything above 7 marks.
