IIFT 2004 Analysis
The IIFT 2004 was on expected
lines and the pattern was almost a repeat of IIFT 2003.
However, the difference in this year's paper was the
introduction of Negative Marks for wrong answers. This
would have put breaks on the mark-all-questions strategy
that IIFT examinees are used to till last year. The
students who came out of the exam hall complained about
the way the whole exam was conducted. There was no reporting
time mentioned and those students who came much before
the exam time of 10:00 AM were not allowed inside and
even before most students have taken their seats, the
bell to start was given in many a centres across the
country. Thanks to the knowledge of the pattern that
T.I.M.E. provided its students through its papers, students
of T.I.M.E. felt that the paper was almost in similar
lines to the previous year's paper.
Quantitative Ability
Most of the questions
in this section were ranging on the easy to moderate
variety. Very few questions can be termed as difficult
and a good math student would have had a field day.
In fact, most students who are good in math have said
that they have attempted more than 35 questions in this
section. A good score in this section would be 18+.
Reasoning
This section consisted of Data Interpretation, Data
Sufficiency, Verbal Reasoning (Critical Reasoning) and
Analytical Reasoning. The questions in Analytical ability
were quite simple. The sets of DI were easy to understand
and so were the DS questions. However, there were 10
questions on Strong Arguments and Inferences which can
be termed as of moderate to high difficulty. A good
score in this section would be 12+.
Verbal Ability
The verbal ability section of the paper included some
words that many students may not have come across. Also
questions where students have to identify the wrongly
spelt words would not have been easy as either they
all looked right or all wrong. The cloze passage was
one of the easy sets of the entire verbal paper. Since
there was only one RC passage in the paper, there was
no dearth of time to complete the section or paper as
such however accuracy matters more in this than the
speed. A good score would be 10+.
General Awareness
This section contained all areas of general awareness
and current affairs and for a student who has been regularly
following the newspapers and magazines, this section
would have been easy. However, as is natural with most
students, eliminating 3 out of the 5 choices would have
been easy but getting the right answer would have also
taken some extra thought and analysis. A good score
in this section would be anything above 8 net marks.
