IRIS '08: Annual Business Fest

Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I) is organizing its business festival ‘IRIS’ from November 6-9, 2008. The theme of the fest will be ‘Break Free’ and will see participants from around 30 B-Schools. Following are the events which will be held during the three days:

The winner of ‘Kalpavriksha’, IRIS flagship event, will get a direct semi-final entry into the Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition to be held at Foster School of Business in Seattle, USA. A member from Aavishkaar India Micro Venture Capital Fund will also be on the judging panel of ‘Kalpavriksha’ to judge the top five finalists who stand a chance to get a non-committal funding of around Rs. 2 million for the execution of their plans.

‘Ashwamedha’, search for the ‘Best Manager of India’ title will see over 1000 participants competing for the ‘Ashwamedha’ trophy - 'Golden Horse', complimented with prize money of Rs. 1.5 lakhs. The event tests a participant on attributes like teamwork, stress handling, conflict management, decision making and presentation skills and interlinks all of these to their theoretical knowledge. Panel of judges for the evet will be from companies like Cavin Kare, JPMorgan Chase, Kellogg and others. Also, Oct 23 will see the latest edition of ‘Klueless’ going live.

‘Sanjeevani’ will give a few participants the opportunity to present their idea to ‘Seedfund’ at its office in Mumbai for a possible funding of Rs 30 million. ‘Bulls and Bears’ and ‘Invested Interests’ will have participants who are interested in the stock markets. Other events include ‘Adapt’, an advertising game and a marketing competition; ‘Storewars’, a retailing game; ‘Marksman’ a strategy game in Marketing; ‘Entrepid’ and ‘Chain Reaction’ will cover Operations and Strategy; ‘Insuris and Bank on Us’ covers the operations performed by insurance companies and banks. ‘Cerebrate Finance’, the case study contest of Finance vertical of IRIS will test the analytical skills of the participants. The highlight of the event is a live case by L&T Infrastructure, which will be judged by their panel themselves coming down to the campus, with prize money of 1.2 lakhs. Alsom ‘Splash’ is an opportunity to showcase cultural streak in music, art, photography etc.

The event will include lectures and interactive sessions. The guests for the sessions include Mr KS Ramesh, ex CEO of Cavin Kare, Mr Srinivasan Vishwanathan, ex MD, JP Morgan Chase, Mr Neeraj Kanwar, joint managing director and COO of Apollo Tyres and Mr Anupam Dutta, MD, Kellogg India. Also, Rama Bijapurkar will be present at the inauguration ceremony. ‘Livewire’, a rock show, will have 'Silk Route' and 'T.A.T.V' performing at the campus on November 9.
